What does your neighborhood taste like?
What is the sound of your community?

Join us for a potluck picnic in Walnut Hill’s Max Paul Park. Bring a favorite dish to share that reminds you of home. Come ready for an afternoon of sharing memories and collaborative art-making. This picnic-style event is about community, inspired by Donnell Powell, a Washington, D.C. native, who is inspired by the rich and steady block party culture in Philadelphia.

We’ll bring the picnic staples, and of course, the DJ. Let’s make it a party!

Donnell Powell graduated from Temple University with a B.A. in Broadcasting, Telecommunications, and Mass Media with a minor in Art.  He considers himself a conceptual and mixed media artist, who intertwines different mediums such as painting, photography, sculpture, and digital media. Through his art, Donnell focuses on social themes such as diversity and oppression, classicism, and the notion of informal versus formal. Donnell’s work has been featured at several galleries in the Philadelphia region including the Top Hat Gallery, The Dr. Ross Beitzel Art Gallery, and Philadelphia City Hall.

In 2010, Donnell co-founded and currently serves as Producing Director for Color My Sidewalk, an arts organization that focuses on the interplay between aesthetic expression, cultural context, and social change. Donnell is on the leadership board of the Mural Arts Program: Young Friends Collective.
