Project Note: Faustin
Taller Puertorriqueño & Faustin Linkyekula
Faustin Linyekula is a Re-PLACE-ing Philadelphia Artist/Thinker. Project Notes document and articulate Faustin's process and engagement with Philadelphia as he develops Philly Files, a new work that will be presented in North Philadelphia from April 21-23, 2016.
On April 19th, students from Taller Puertorriqueño's Youth Artist Program (YAP) had an opportunity to collaborate with Congolese dancer and choreographer Faustin Linyekula as a part of Re-PLACE-ing Philadelphia. YAP was invited to create an artwork responding to the decayed factory building where the performance of Faustin's work Philly Files will take place, adding a visual art component to the ruins of North Philadelphia's industrial past. Mr. Daniel de Jesus and Joshua Mallory were the mentors for the project. The students include: Kevin Hernandez, Kevin Negron, Tatyana Ortiz, Angel Mendez, and Abdiel Jimenez
