Walk in the Wissahickon with Brenda Dixon Gottschild
by Barbara Braxton

Re-PLACE-ing Philadelphia is building an expanded archive of cultural memory that includes multiple histories, re-place-ing the established with new narratives and understandings. Notes from invited artists and community members consider place via the street, sound, food, trees, and other portals.

On Saturday, July 18, African American cultural historian, performer, choreographer and anti-racist worker Brenda Dixon Gottschild led a meditative walk in Wissahickon Park. We asked participants to share their photos and reflections from the walk.

Barbara Braxton shared the photo she took above and wrote:

"I love walking & taking pictures in Valley Greene. Saturday’s walk allowed me to look at some of my favorite places with new eyes."

Keep checking back to see when the next Re-PLACE-ing Philadelphia walk will take place.
